Assessment accommodation

Duties

Enhance reintegration opportunities for Aboriginal offenders in the community through the identification of needs and resources available to offenders on release to bridge the continuum of care, particularly for those offenders released on statutory release.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process

A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff the same or similar vacant positions now or in the future. This pool will have a validity period and may be extended pending management approval.

Education

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience is determined to be 2 years of post secondary education in a field of study related to the work to be performed and/or 2 years of work experience and training in a relevant field.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience working in an Aboriginal community or organization.
Experience in applying traditional, cultural and spiritual teachings and values to work experiences.
Experience in drafting reports.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the CCRA, sections 79-84.
Knowledge of First Nations, Métis or Inuit culture and spirituality.
Knowledge of community resources pertinent to Aboriginal peoples.
Knowledge of CSC mission, mandate and institutions.
Knowledge of Aboriginal offender needs.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Ability to manage, support and motivate Aboriginal offenders in individual and/or group settings.
Ability to assess client needs and provide advice on appropriate services and referrals.
Ability to manage respectful relationships with Elders.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to organize and coordinate Aboriginal culture, traditional/spiritual ceremonies, social activities and programs.

Asset Qualifications

Asset qualifications are not essential however, candidates who demonstrate that they meet asset qualifications may have an advantage during the appointment process as the asset qualifications MAY be assessed by the hiring manager and used to appoint successful candidates to vacant positions.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in gathering data and analysis of reports.
Experience in programs facilitation.
Experience working with Ontario First Nations and Metis communities.
Experience working with Inuit populations.
Experience in establishing community networks or initiatives.
Experience working in a Healing Lodge or the community related to correctional services such as law enforcement as an example.
Experience making presentations.

Occasional travel.
Flexible hours, (e.g., gatherings or events that begin Sunday evening).
