The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.
The immediate need is to fill one full time indeterminate position in Comox, BC. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff positions of various tenures (indeterminate, term) and may also be used for staffing similar positions at other locations within RPOPS on Vancouver Island.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate in the following field:
- Refrigeration Mechanic
OR
Technician Qualification Level QL5 or DP2 (Refrigeration Technician)
NOTE: A Refrigeration Technician Qualification will be accepted at time of application,
however, candidates will be required to obtain their Red Seal Certification prior to appointment.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Recent Experience* in the installation and repair of refrigeration units/systems/controls and air conditioning units and HVAC equipment.
EX2: Experience in maintenance of refrigeration systems and controls, HVAC equipment and controls.
EX3: Experience with preventive maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial air conditioning systems.
EX4: Experience using a direct digital control system (DDC).
EX5:Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite (including Excel, Outlook and Word)
*Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
- HVAC Electrical Endorsement
EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience maintaining radar installation/equipment.
AE2: Experience with preventive maintenance of air compressor and components connected to the air system.
AE:3 Experience working with aircraft arrestor systems

OR4: Willing and able to stand, climb, walk, lift (23kg), carry (23kg) bend, pull and push, reach and crouch in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
OR5: Willing and able to wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
OR6: Willing and able to travel to Holberg for extended periods of time.
OR7: Willing and able to perform strenuous physical labour, and be able to climb ladders, work from roofs, elevated structures, confined spaces and platforms (heights).
Reliability Status security clearance
CoE1: A valid, unrestricted driver’s licence holding a qualification (class) equivalent to the DND vehicle to be driven/operated.
CoE2: Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a
Departmental driver’s license (DND 404).
CoE3: Must be able to lift, carry and move heavy awkward materials and equipment, to a maximum 25Kg.
CoE4: Willing and able to perform strenuous physical labour, and be able to climb ladders, work from roofs, elevated structures, confined spaces and platforms (heights).
CoE5: Willing and able to wear and/or utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations or policies.
CoE6: Willing and able to work on standby.
CoE7: Willing and able to work on a fully operational airfield.
