Duties

For CSA, systems design, research and technology development in various disciplines of technologies and applications, and provision of engineering advice, expertise and recommendations to meet the current and future needs of the Agency and its Canadian partners.

The discipline of radar and antennas includes: Radar definition, design, calibration, analysis and measurement; Radar performance analysis and evaluation; Radar assembly and integration into spacecraft. Antenna and Antenna sub-systems definition, calibration, analysis and measurement; Antenna and Antenna sub-systems performance analysis and evaluation; Antenna and Antenna sub-systems design, assembly and integration into spacecraft. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technologies and systems, SAR simulation and signal processing. Aerospace technologies applicable to radar and radiometer payloads, microwave earth observation payloads; RF and microwave systems and sub-systems.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff the position on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and could be used to staff similar positions whose length, linguistic profiles and security profiles may vary.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in an engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position to be staffed, such as but not limited to: Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software.
OR
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

• Experience, of approximately seven (7) years, in performing engineering work*, of which approximately five (5) years as an electric Engineer.

* Engineering work is defined as performing a broad range of complex and interrelated work activities including: research, modeling, analysis, design, assembly, integration, test and qualification.

• Experience in analyzing, designing, simulating Radar system and the associated signal processor.

• Experience to initiate the development of new concept studies, to analyze the stakeholders needs, generate an execution plan and obtain the consensus required for it execution.

• Knowledge of electromagnetic wave propagation and their interactions with natural or artificial targets.

• Post-graduate degree from a recognized university in an engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position to be staffed, such as but not limited to: Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software.

Degree equivalency

• Experience with industrial Research and Development (R&D) program and projects.

• Experience with design, modelling and tests of antenna sub-systems.

• Experience with RF and Microwave subsystems.

• Experience with signal processing digital subsystems.

• Knowledge of Earth Observations (EO) sensors and techniques such as reflectometers, scatterometers, sounders, radiometers, optical instruments and hyperspectral instruments.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

-Willingness to travel in Canada or abroad several times per year for short durations.
-Willingness to work at other facilities in and outside Canada (some of them may require special access).
-Willingness to work overtime upon request and sometimes under tight deadlines.
-Willingness to work shifts occasionally (e.g. during periods of integration and test).
