The Chief of Education manages and supervises the delivery of education programs to, and the provision of library services for, inmates. He or she implements and directs institutional education programs for, and manages the institutional library services offered at the institutions in the Atlantic Region (Dorchester Penitentiary, Atlantic Institution, Nova Institution for Women and Springhill Institution).
The Chief of Education supervises a subordinate staff of teachers, librarians and assistants, and monitors the work of contract staff at the institutions. He or she reviews and provides quality control of all interim and final performance assessment reports and establishes and maintains communication and reporting between the schools and libraries at the institutions and the regional headquarters, as well as with national headquarters.
The Chief of Education collaborates and liaises with case management staff and other institutional staff at the institutions and manages the budget, develops a staffing plan for education programs and library services, as well as reports on results.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders placed within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500 offenders under supervision in the community. EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics or some other specialty relevant to the positions in the classification.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Possession of an acceptable teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada.
Experience as a teacher in an educational institution.
EXPERIENCE
An additional Qualification in any one of the following:
- Special Education
- Guidance
- Experience in managing an adult education program
Bilingual - Imperative (CCC/CCC)

Knowledge of principles of adult Education.
Knowledge of Department of Post-Secondary Education, the Adult High School Diploma, the General Education Diploma (GED) and the Academic Provisional Exam.

Assessments may consist of a test, an interview and references.
