Salary for appointments made to Defence Scientist group are based on incumbant's qualifications (education and experience) as determined by the evaluation Committee.

Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) is the national leader in defence and security science and technology.
As an agency of Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND), DRDC provides DND, the Canadian Armed Forces and other government departments as well as the public safety and national security communities, the knowledge and technological advantage needed to defend and protect Canada’s interests at home and abroad.
The intent of this process is to fill one position on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates could be created and could be used to fill similar or identical positions with various tenure, security clearance or linguistic requirement.

Studies:
Graduation with a master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in physics, physical engineering or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Experiences:
Have at least 5 years’ experience in at least three of the following five areas:
• Experimental radiometry in ultra-violet and/or visible and/or infrared;
• Imagery in the ultra-violet, visible or infrared;
• Exploitation and development of algorithms of processing dynamic hyperspectral data (Multivariate analysis: PCA, ICA, PLS,…);
• Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR);
• Design and development of mathematical models to characterize the phenomena observed in physical optics (background correction, passive target tracking, molecular spectroscopy, …).
Studies:
Graduation with a doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in physics with specialization in optics, photonics.
Experiences:
- Programming languages C++ and/or IDL and/or Python and/or Matlab;
- Database development tools.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
• Phenomenology, modeling and experimental characterization of the spectral properties of infrared, visible and ultraviolet phenomena;
• Spectral Imaging Fourier spectrometer technologies applied to laboratory and external measurements;
• Theories and methods of spectral analysis (signal and image processing, statistical analysis) applied to the analysis of imaging data in infrared, visible, ultraviolet.
