The mandate of Library and Archives Canada is to acquire, process and preserve Canada’s documentary heritage, and to provide public access to it. LAC also serves as the continuing memory of the Government of Canada and its institutions.

The intent of this process is to immediately staff three temporary position for a period of one year with a possibility of extension.
A pool of fully assessed candidates will be established following this process which may be used to staff similar positions.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary school program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.
*The acceptable combination is 2 years of collection management experience in preventive care or description or circulation or physical control of documentary heritage material and a high school diploma.
At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, that is comparable to the minimum education stated above, may serve as an alternative.
Whenever this minimum educational standard is met through an alternative, it is met only for the position being staffed, and a candidate must be re-assessed for future appointments and deployments where the manager has allowed for the use of this alternative.
EXPERIENCE
Experience conducting research using print and online research and reference tools
Experience in inventory management or management of records
Experience handling collection material in an archival or library or museum setting
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the mandate of Library and Archives Canada
Knowledge of care and handling principles for heritage materials in different formats
ASSET EXPERIENCE
Experience using CMS/CMS-HD or Aurora or Amicus or Mikan database
Experience in the preparation or moving of published or archival collections
Experience in processing archival records

Operate a lift truck and have the ability to obtain its certification during employment.
