The primary focus of the work is the installation, maintenance, inspection and repair of a variety of equipment and systems such as: water pump house facilities, grease traps, interceptors, sewage lagoons, water reservoirs, water distribution systems, chlorination systems, swimming pools, sewage treatment and collection systems, oily wastewater treatment plants, oil separators, fuel dispensers, above and below ground fuel tanks, as well as responding to land-based hazardous spills.
The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.
Immediate intent is to fill various positions in Victoria and Comox, British Columbia.
This Selection process will be used to establish a candidate pool for filling current and future vacancies with various tenures (term, indeterminate, casual) for positions same or similar to within Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Education:
Successful completion of secondary school.
Occupational Certification:
Level 1 Provincial certification in at least 1 of the following areas; Wastewater collection systems, Water distribution systems, Wastewater treatment, Water treatment, Petroleum Equipment Installer (ITA certification in B.C, or provincial equivalent).
OR
Technician Qualification Level minimum QL5 (Water, Fuel, Environment Technician) in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Experience:
Experience in performing mechanical repairs and installations.
Experience in performing maintenance and inspections on mechanical systems.
Provincial Certification in more than one of the Occupational Certifications Identified.
Experience in fuel farm operation, maintenance and repair.
Experience in confined space entry.
Experience in hazmat cleanup.
Experience in taking samples for forwarding to laboratories.
Experience in swimming pool operations and maintenance.
Experience in pump maintenance and repair.
Experience in the transportation of dangerous goods.
Experience in MS Office Suite.

Reliability Status security clearance
Must possess and maintain a valid, non-graduated, and unrestricted provincial or territorial Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s license (DND 404).
Must be capable of heavy lifting up to 25kg.
Must be able to go in confined spaces and wear fully encapsulated Level A suits.
Must be willing and able to wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
Must be able to climb and work off ladders/scaffold.
Must be willing and able to use a computer.
Required to attend training such as but not limited to; Hazmat Technician Level certification and certification in First Aid (standard certification level).
