In addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated posts allowance. This can range from $18,000 to $33,000 per year, depending on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance of approximately $2,000 to $3,000 twice a year for you and each eligible dependant.

Duties

You will work as part of the Field Operations team, in the heart of the action, and will be able to share your technical and legal expertise in resource management during meetings and negotiations with our clients, stakeholders, and partners.

You will have to:

• Manage the assigned portfolio of complex and sensitive inspection, compliance, investigation, and enforcement activities;

• Provide advice, mentoring and coaching to all members of the Field Operations team (your future team!);

• Educate, advise and guide our clients, stakeholders and partners with your technical and legal expertise.

Your role, as a technical, legal and management specialist, is to provide advice, support your manager and act as a second-in-command when necessary.

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and online screening questions. However, they are only assets, so you do not need to meet them to be selected, but preference could be given to those who have them.

• Successful completion of a post-secondary program in Resource Management, Environmental Sciences or in another field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

• Experience working in a northern environment.

• Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically relates to Inuit culture and values.

• Experience in representing an organization in legal cases including the need to prepare court briefs, as well as supporting Counsel in preparing to prosecute the case, and appearing as a witness for the Crown.

• Knowledge of the natural resource activities in the North.

• Knowledge of land claims in the North.

• Ability to communicate in Inuktut.

Information on language requirements

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the screening questions we ask you to complete online. To ensure that you are selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.

This is what we are looking for:

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training in a field relevant to the position.

Note : Be prepared to provide us with your proof of education later in the process.

Degree equivalency

• Experience providing scientific and technical advice, or briefing on environmental programs or projects.

• Experience in developing informational documents such as, but not limited to, developing policy, directive, procedures or guidelines.

• Experience in investigation and enforcement activities.

• Experience in environmental protection or water and land resource management monitoring.

These criteria are essential for the job, but they will be assessed later using different assessment methods (written exam, interview, reference check, etc.).

• Knowledge of environmental issues related to industrial and commercial development activities.

• Knowledge of the legal requirements related to conducting regulatory site inspections and investigations.

• Ability to conduct environmental inspections in extreme conditions or at remote sites across Nunavut.

• Ability to understand technical reports, environmental legislation, regulations or permits.

• Ability to provide functional guidance, coaching, mentoring or oversight to other staff.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Reliability Security Clearance and medical clearance prior to taking up their position.
