Duties

About the position:

You’ll be leading a creative, high-calibre team of web designers in the development of creative, intuitive web content and tools that support our colleagues’ work and careers. You’ll meet with colleagues to scope and plan web projects and initiatives. You’ll work with your Assistant Director to set the priorities for your team in terms of where we can make the biggest improvements for our employee community. You’ll collaborate daily with a team of dynamic, creative internal communications strategists to deliver fun, effective marketing campaigns and strategies. Most importantly, you will make sure that your team members have what they need to deliver and be happy at work. If you get that part right, everything else will follow.

Are you the right person for this team? We hope so. Here’s what we are looking for:
• Creativity – We need someone who has lots of ideas, but also knows how to draw great ideas out of others.
• Positive attitude – Some things you can learn. This isn’t one of them. We want someone who brings an infectious positivity to the team and our clients.
• Relationships –You will need to rely on them or build them. Not every client is going to like our ideas or approach, but we need to work with them to build change.
• Organized – We are a big department with many business lines and projects. You will need to be able to manage the work of your team and help identify priorities.
• Team builder – You’ll manage a team, and lead them into new ways of working. This will mean figuring out how to make use of everyone`s talents, as well as identifying gaps and getting people trained, so they stay happy, healthy and motivated to deliver great products.
• This is still a process, so the essential experience, knowledge, skills and abilities required to set yourself up for success are below.

Work environment

Every day, our work at IRCC affects people’s lives in Canada and across the world. We collaborate with Canadian citizens, sponsors, employers, and educators. We protect refugees, welcome hundreds of thousands of newcomers each year, help people settle into Canada, promote citizenship, and issue passports that are trusted around the world. Check us out at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/careers.html.

About the team:

At IRCC Communications, we are putting together a team of people to work like a creative agency to connect with our colleagues and do internal communications differently. We’re encouraging colleagues to stay healthy and happy, doing behavioral change campaigns, and connecting people with ideas. Think campaigns that foster empathy by encouraging IRCC employees to listen to client calls to our call centre. Branding tactics that market wellness with our Nike-inspired “Take the Stairs” campaign. Designing and building web tools that make getting our work done quicker and easier. We want to help our colleagues work smarter, not harder.

What else do you need to know about us?
• Data is our friend. Just because something is creative and cool doesn’t mean that it’s effective.
• We like to evaluate our ideas and aren’t afraid to let an idea die if it doesn’t work out.
• We believe in life-work balance. In that order. You can’t be creative if you’re burnt out.
• You’ll have a budget to explore creative digital and non-digital internal marketing and web initiatives.
• You will be working in downtown Ottawa at Laurier and Kent. Great coffee and great ramen are just around the corner.
• We also support mobile work for those occasions when you need to be somewhere else but still get your stuff done.
