This challenging and rewarding position is at the heart of the Government of Canada as part of the team working on the editing and translation of its prime decision-making document: Main Estimates, and Supplementary Estimates. This position requires superior professional language skills. You will play a role in determining the correct usage and terminology describing the most visible public and government programs. The Editor is part of a team of language specialists in a dynamic work environment delivering more than 7 million words each year.
A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process WILL be created and MAY be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative PPC/CCC and bilingual imperative CCC/PPC) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.
This pool may be used to staff similar positions in other organizations within the core public administration (http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/plcy-pltq/rfli-lirf/index-eng.htm).

Education
FOR BOTH STREAMS:
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the position being staffed.
OR
An acceptable* combination of education, training and/or experience.
*Suitable for a position as determined by the manager unless otherwise regulated by the employer.
Experience
FOR BOTH STREAMS:
- Significant* experience in writing or editing various high-visibility, complex or strategic documents aimed at different audiences;
- Experience in providing linguistic advice.
FOR STREAM 1 ONLY:
- Experience in English translation of French documents;
- Experience in English comparative editing of French-translated high-visibility documents.
FOR STREAM 2 ONLY:
- Significant* experience in French translation of English documents;
- Significant* experience in French comparative editing of English-translated high-visibility documents.
*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed full-time a broad range of activities over a minimum period of four (4) years.
Knowledge
FOR BOTH STREAMS:
- Knowledge of terminological tools and resources for editors and translators.
FOR STREAM 1 ONLY:
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian English grammar and language conventions
FOR STREAM 2 ONLY:
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian French grammar and language conventions
Abilities

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
-Treasury Board Secretariat employees affected by workforce adjustment may be appointed before persons employed by other government organizations;
