Duties

The work consists of indoor and outdoor maintenance activities to support a research site that conducts research into cereal crops as well as tree material.

Work environment

As one of the 20 research sites in Canada, this Facilities Worker position is located within the Indian Head site. The Indian Head site is responsible for conducting research into cereal crops as well as agro-forestry development. This position will support the delivery of these science programs by maintaining the equipment, buildings and grounds necessary to delivery these programs.

Intent of the process

This process is to staff one(1) full time permanent position.

Although we are looking to fill one (1) position, in the event that more than one
candidate is found qualified, a pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within AAFC.

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the operation of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery utilized in non-residential grounds and facilities maintenance work environments.

Experience operating vehicles and specialized equipment such as: heavy, medium and light duty trucks; aerial lifts; tractors; cars; vans; mowers.

Experience in preventative maintenance and repairs on powered mechanical or mobile equipment such as, but not limited to: building systems, skid steer loaders, forklifts, agricultural tractors, riding grounds mowers, snow blowers, ATV’s, and small engines.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.

Knowledge in the operation of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery utilized in grounds and facilities maintenance.

Knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, lighting and safety/security in the conduct of facility maintenance.

Post secondary certificate - Small Engine Repair
Post secondary certificate - Agricultural Machinery Technician or equivalent

Experience monitoring the work of outside contractors and suppliers

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid driver’s licence (Class 5).

Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work under variable weather conditions.
Ability and willingness to work in confined spaces.
Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work including moderate to heavy manual labor requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 45 kg).
Ability and willingness to work in harsh environmental conditions (outdoors, cold, hot, dust and noise)
