The incumbent will be part of the mustard breeding program focusing on the improvement of quality and agronomic traits in mustard varieties. In the greenhouse the incumbent will assist with all research activities including planting, tissue sampling, crossing and harvesting. In the laboratory, the technician will assist with DNA extractions and routine molecular marker analysis.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) helps farmers and industry feed our country. We work to increase Canada’s exports, while providing leadership in the growth and development of a competitive, innovative and sustainable Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector.
The Saskatoon Research and Development Centre, located in the heart of the Prairies in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, conducts research on prairie crops to support the agri-food industry in Western Canada. It is located on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan.
The Centre emphasizes collaboration between several private and public research organizations and develops integrated crop management strategies for sustainable cropping systems on the Canadian Prairies through combining research in genetics and germplasm development, plant pathology, entomology, plant physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology.
It is the home of the Plant Gene Resources of Canada, an important international repository of crops.
Leading research focuses on the following five initiatives with a supporting role in agronomy and northern agriculture:
•Integrated crop management for sustainable cropping systems on the Canadian Prairies
•Sustainable management of plant diseases and insect pests
•Integrated strategies for genetic improvement of oilseed, legume, and forage crops
•Genetic resource conservation, characterization and utilization
•Bioproducts and bioresources
We are presently looking for a vibrant and dynamic technician to be part of the mustard breeding program.
This process is to staff one(1) full time term position.
Although we are looking to fill one (1) position, in the event that more than one candidate is found qualified, a pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within AAFC.
