Duties

The successful applicant will work at the Corner Brook Research Facility of the Canadian Forest Service, Natural Resources Canada located in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This regional office of CFS-NRCan is located at Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Grenfell Campus. The research facility houses research related to climate change, pest management, forest ecology, forest carbon modelling, sustainable forest management, enhanced forest inventory and more.

This position will be interdisciplinary in nature, aimed at examining the impacts of climate change on the Eastern Boreal Forest.

Intent of the process

The purpose of this process is to staff one (1) English essential Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador on a temporary basis. Depending on organizational need and funding availability, a qualified candidate may be appointed on a permanent basis.

This process also aims at establishing a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to staff positions of Posdoctoral Research Fellow at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate or indeterminate), with various linguistic requirements and profiles (French essential, English essential, bilingual imperative or bilingual non-imperative; BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Recent graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized university in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, such as ecosystem science, soil science, and biogeochemistry.

Productivity/Recognition
Recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from operational research and scientific analysis.

Degree equivalency

Experience planning, developing and conducting forestry-related climate change research.
Experience designing experiments and conducting field measurements using laboratory and field instruments.
Experience employing advanced statistical techniques to analyze ecological data.

Knowledge of the principles of biogeochemical cycles and climate change.
Knowledge of forest watershed management.
Knowledge of statistical modelling procedures.
Knowledge of forest resources in Canada.
