Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one French essential position for a period of one year with possibility of extension.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Technical diploma in a field related to the position, such as: mechanics, electricity, refrigeration

Degree equivalency

A valid class 1 refrigeration system (RS-1) certificate or certifications in mechanics of fixed machines, refrigeration equipment, class A Emploi Québec – ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MTESS), or acceptable equivalence.

Recent* and significant** experience in the maintenance and operation of office buildings or scientific research facilities.
* Recent: 2 consecutive years of work experience within the last 4 years.
**Significant: Executing a series of tasks of various kinds and levels of complexity.

Experience in maintenance of refrigeration systems and controls, HVAC equipment, and backup generators.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of at least two years of a post-secondary program in building service and maintenance.

Degree equivalency

Valid journeyman competency certificate recognize by the Commission de construction du Québec (CCQ) in one of the following fields of expertise: electrician, plumbing, refrigeration system or heating.

Experience using a computerized preventive maintenance system on a regular basis. This includes among others: entering maintenance action requests, correcting errors, printing reports, etc.
Experience in plumbing, electricity, or building systems in connection with the functioning and maintenance of a laboratory or scientific environment.
Experience using a direct digital control system (DDC).
Experience in making recommendations with respect to cost estimates, decisions concerning component replacement and repair, as well as acceptance of the work completed.
Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Practical knowledge of how building cooling systems work.
Knowledge of the general principles of health and safety.

Ability to assess and perform repairs on HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning).
Ability to lift and move objects, materials, and equipment in a safe and suitable manner.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Possession of a valid Quebec Class 5 driver’s licence.
Ability to lift over 25 kg.
Willingness to respond to emergency calls to work outside normal hours.
Willingness to be on call (rotational basis).
Willingness to work overtime.
Physical ability to climb up and down a ladder, as well as to work inside or outside closed spaces or confined areas.
Wearing required personal protection equipment.
