Duties

The Mortgage Insurance Group is responsible for the supervision of the mortgage insurance industry in Canada. Given the importance of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and its private sector competitors in the housing finance sector, OSFI’s prudential oversight responsibility is an important element of the overall risk management framework operating at the intersection space between banking and insurance in Canada.

Members of our team come from diverse professional backgrounds – bringing banking, insurance, risk management, and both public and private sector experience to the table. We interact extensively with colleagues across OSFI from banking and insurance supervision, regulation and specialist teams – affording our team members with opportunities for exposure to a broad range of financial and risk management issues, and visibility across OSFI. As a team we bring together strong analytical capabilities, sound business judgment, and communication and influence skills.

We’re currently looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team, in downtown Toronto, in the position of Senior Supervisor. Our Senior Supervisors contribute to the assessment of the risk profile and risk management practices of mortgage insurance companies, and participate in related industry-wide and cross-sector analysis and initiatives. Specific candidate accountabilities may include:
• Interacting with Senior Management, Board of Directors and other key stakeholders at the mortgage insurers.
• Assessing the inherent risks and determining factors that drive the risk profile of the companies.
• Ongoing monitoring of the companies’ risk and financial performance, through the analysis of regulatory returns and other company-specific data, with an emphasis on profitability and capital strength.
• Leading/participating in assessments of significant activities or control functions at mortgage insurers.
• Working with OSFI’s specialists from the Credit Risk Division, Operational Risk Division, Model Risk Division, and Actuarial Division.
• Identifying best practices and emerging trends.
