EG-01
• Participate in juvenile and adult salmon enumeration programs. Work with Senior Technician and Area Biologist to collect field data and biological samples. Includes assisting with stream surveys, catch sampling, data entry, compilation and review.
• Assist with the recreational catch monitoring program and salmon head recovery depot servicing, conducting aerial over flights for fishing vessel counts.
• maintenance of field equipment.
• Work with external stakeholders and First Nation partners to assist both escapement and recreational catch monitoring programs.
• Abide by all DFO Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work procedures.
• Abide by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada Values and Ethics code.
EG-02
Tasks for EG-02 positions will be similar to the EG-01, but with increased responsibility with regards to program delivery and training.
• Assist in the coordination of enumeration activities throughout area and ensure data collection, compilation and primary analysis is complete. Includes data management and oversight of field operations
• Assist in the delivery of the Recreational Catch monitoring program: including stakeholder engagement, supervision and training of creel staff, conducting aerial over flights for vessel effort counts, monitoring of creel program to meet required data standards and support in developing and finalizing catch/release and effort estimates.
• Maintain existing databases for escapement and catch information
• Undertake maintenance and repair of vessels and assessment equipment.
• Entry and review of assessment, fishery monitoring, environmental and biological data.
• Train and audit local survey crews and/or First Nation crews and assist in biological sampling of salmon stocks for both escapement and recreational programs.
• Assess stream conditions, collect environmental data consistent with establish protocols and ensure stream access and survey markers are in place.
• Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to ensure safety and health of oneself and others within the work environment.
The primary use of this process will be to staff various Fisheries Technician positions on a seasonal, term, or casual basis within the South Coast Area Stock Assessment program. This process may also be used to staff other similar programs for various tenures within the South Coast Area or the Pacific Region.

• Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. Experience can be defined as having participated in fisheries (recreational, commercial, or First Nations), or working with the public, First Nations or government.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

All Positions:
• Experience with data entry and analysis, preparing summary reports using applicable computer software programs such as MS Excel, Access and Word
• Experience preparing technical or scientific reports
• Experience in data management including organization and labelling of samples and data sheets.
• Experience operating and maintaining field equipment such as boats, motors, vehicles, inflatable rafts, seine nets and biological sampling and mechanical equipment
EG 02:
• Enrollment in or completion of a diploma or degree program for fisheries or other relevant biological or natural resource science(s)
• Experience conducting stock assessments of anadromous salmonids

All Positions:
• Knowledge of the identification, biology and ecology of Pacific Salmon and other species frequently encountered in Pacific Fisheries.

• Proficient in the operation and maintenance of power driven (jet and propeller) vessels
• Swift Water Rescue Training

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Working overtime, weekends, variable hours and shift work as required to meet operational needs
• Working and living in remote field camps, often under challenging conditions such as inclement weather, with limited amenities for extended periods of time
• Working in and around lakes and swiftwater environments
• Participation in periods of strenuous physical work, associated with field activities and equipment maintenance
• Flying in helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft
• Proximity of residence to various project locations within the Vancouver Island Region
