First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH), Indigenous Services Canada, is recruiting Registered Nurses to provide quality, evidence-informed nursing services, respectful of culture and intended to enhance the health of First Nations people for the community of Whitefish (128)/Goodfish. In this position you would enjoy autonomous, varied work providing public/community health care while immersed in the diverse cultures of Canada’s First Nations.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Nurse-In-Charge (NIC) provides leadership and collaborates in the delivery of comprehensive Health Programs which include promoting, protecting and preserving the health of First Nations living on reserve. In partnership with community members and leaders programs are designed to promote environments that support good health. The Community Health NIC adheres to the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice: building individual and community capacity, building relationships, facilitating access and equity, demonstrating professional responsibility and accountability, and promoting health.
The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care are paramount in this area of practice.
The NIC will be responsible to lead and coordinate a dynamic team that may consist of:
Public Health – responsibilities such as communicable disease control, well child clinics, pre-natal and post-natal programs, school health, health promotion, disease and injury prevention
Home and Community Care – responsibilities such case management, chronic disease management, wound care, post-operative care
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a term, acting and/or permanent basis in Alberta.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Occupational Certification:
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
• Recent and significant* experience as a Registered Nurse in Public Health & Home & Community Care.
• Experience as a Registered Nurse in leadership roles (such as leading a multi-disciplinary team, managing a program, leading a nursing unit and/or medical clinic) in Public Health, and/or Home Care
*Recent and significant is defined as the performance of full-time duties of a Public Health nurse for a minimum period of 3 years within the last 5 years.

Education:
A Master’s degree in Nursing or a field related to health, such as Community or Health Development, Health Administration, or Public Health from a recognized university.
Experience:
• Experience as an Nurse in Charge

• Experience in Home and Community Care nursing
• Experience delivering presentations and/or facilitating groups
• Experience working with First Nations communities

Operational Requirements:
• Travel to rural and/or remote locations on gravel roads
• CPR Certificate, Healthcare Provider Level C (renewed annually)

• Willingness to relocate to Alberta
Reliability Status security clearance
Possession of a valid driver’s licence
Continuous professional registration, without conditions or restrictions, with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
