You must submit a complete application, consisting of screening questions which clearly demonstrate how you meet the screening criteria (education and experience) and a résumé. The screening questions will be used as the primary tool in the screening process and the résumé will only be used to substantiate the information provided.
In your response to the screening questions, you will be required to provide concrete examples such as details of tasks, projects, or accomplishments demonstrating how the experience was acquired. If you do not fully complete the screening questions as instructed, your application will not be further considered when doing extractions.
The first extraction is expected to occur one week after posting. In addition, extractions from this inventory is expected to occur throughout and after the advertisement period. If extracted, candidates will only be assessed once.
Any assessment method that is considered appropriate to determine whether a person meets the qualifications (other than education and experience) referred to in the statement of merit may be used, such as a review of past performance and accomplishments, examinations, interviews and reference checks.
This challenging and rewarding position is at the heart of the Government of Canada as part of the team working on the editing and translation of its prime decision-making document: the federal budget. This position requires superior professional language skills. You will play a role in determining the correct usage and terminology describing the most visible public and government programs. The French Editor is part of a team of editors in a dynamic work environment delivering more than 700,000 words each year.
In addition to the Budget, a French Editor is assigned a wide range of economic publications and releases, directed at the media, tax and legal specialists and the general public both in Canada and abroad. Language Services is also responsible for editing Ministerial speeches, and ensuring language standards for the Department’s Web site, statements, briefing materials, policy reports, brochures, letters, bulletins, advertising and multimedia presentations.
The purpose of this process is to establish an inventory of candidates for extraction and further assessment to staff current and future IS-04 vacancies within the Language Services Unit of the Consultations and Communications Branch of the Department of Finance Canada.
Selection decisions may be made on the basis of one or more of the following considerations:
• Matching of the individual's experience or qualifications to the strengths and weaknesses of the work team;
• Depth, breadth, type of work-specific experience;
• Level/degree of one or more competencies/qualifications.

Asset Education:
Graduation with a degree (bachelor's) from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in translation or linguistics.
Asset Experience:
Extensive experience* in revising a variety of documents written in French or translated from English to French, such as specialized and general interest publications, speeches, correspondence, news releases and backgrounders within the Public Service.
