EDUCATION:

• A secondary school diploma.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

Candidates must possess one of the following:

• Currently employed as a professional or volunteer firefighter with NFPA 1001 – Firefighter I and II (or Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) – Intervention en sécurité incendie).
OR
• Within the last five (5) years obtained NFPA 1001 – Firefighter I and II (or Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) – Intervention en sécurité incendie).

In addition to the above, candidates must also possess:

• NFPA 472 – Hazardous Materials (Awareness and Operations)
• Valid Standard First Aid (or higher) certification
• Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – Level C (or higher) certification
• Valid Class 5E driver’s licence issued by the Province of New Brunswick or the equivalent in another province
(As per the conditions of employment, please note that a valid Class 3E driver’s licence will be required prior to appointment.)

Note: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) qualifications must be accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in working as a full-time firefighter with a fire department.
• Experience in working as a volunteer firefighter with a fire department.

Operational Requirements

• Must be willing and able to work shift work.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime (including weekends and statutory holidays).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Possess and maintain a valid Class 3E driver’s licence issued by the Province of New Brunswick or the equivalent in another province.
• Must provide a driver’s abstract dated no later than 60 days before the date of appointment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DND 404 driver’s licence for emergency vehicles with airbrake endorsement.
• Possess and maintain a valid Standard First Aid (or higher) certification.
• Possess and maintain a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – Level C (or higher) certification.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification.
• Must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with the Treasury Board guidelines.
• Must successfully complete the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation (CFFM’s FPFE).
• Must participate in the DND Firefighter Physical Fitness Maintenance Program (FF PFMP).
• Must permanently reside or be willing to relocate within 75 kilometres of 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown, New Brunswick.
• Must be willing and able to work shift work.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime (including weekends and statutory holidays).
• Must attend and successfully complete applicable trade training courses as selected and scheduled by the employer.
• Must wear the DND Fire Service uniform, as required.
