Work environment

The federal government has a unique role in the North. Unlike in the provinces where Criminal Code offences are prosecuted by the Attorney General of the province, Criminal Code offences in the territories are prosecuted by the Attorney General of Canada through the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC). The Crown Witness Coordinator Program is an important part of the prosecution team, working with victims and witnesses in 63 communities throughout the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut during the prosecution of Criminal Code offences.

As a Crown Witness Coordinator (CWC), your role will include:
• Administrative duties such as scheduling meetings, providing referral services to support agencies and keeping legal files up-to date and well documented.
• Acting as a liaison between Crown Counsel and victims/witnesses of crime.
• Ensuring that victims/witnesses understand the court process, their rights, and responsibilities.
• Providing victims/witnesses with court updates, accompanying witnesses to court, support during and after testimony and assisting with trial preparation.

It is essential that we find someone who:
• Recognizes the importance of file management;
• Understands the criminal justice system in order to provide accurate information;
• Is a self-starter and can work with minimal supervision;
• Is flexible with working hours and is able to work some evenings and weekends;
• Is comfortable travelling on small planes into communities.

Does this sound like you? If you have experience working with victims or vulnerable populations in places like group homes, corrections, or in social work… we want you! Joining the PPSC in this unique role will be a transformative experience, both professionally and personally.

As an employee in an isolated post, you will receive vacation travel assistance and an isolated post allowance on top of your regular salary. For positions in Nunavut, you are guaranteed subsidized housing.
