The Department of National Defence (DND) is a department like no other. DND and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are together the largest federal government department, and the only department where military members work alongside civilians. As a Naval Architect working for the On-Site Management Team located in Esquimalt Graving Dock, you’ll be primarily responsible for oversighting significant surveys, repairs, and trials on Royal Canadian Navy Victoria-class submarines during their extended 3rd-line maintenance work periods. Your technical expertise, leadership, deckplate presence, and experience will play a key role in aligning the prime contractor, Fleet, and System Authorities in order to solve many challenging technical and programmatic issues.

The results of this process will be used to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff current and future ENG-04 positions across Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Significant experience working as an engineering specialist in either marine structures or naval architecture.

Significant experience in In-Service Equipment Management.

Significant experience in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and Supportability.

*Significant* is defined as five (5) accumulated years of relevant work experience in private or public sectors.

Experience working on Project Teams.

Experience supervising personnel.

Master degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, or mechanical engineering.

Degree equivalency

Significant experience in the field of military equipment overhaul.

Significant experience in operations management and production planning in a production environment.

Significant experience in submarine materiel certification policy and processes.

Significant* experience in ILS and Supportability specific to submarine materiel certification and quality assurance for safety in submarines.

Experience in Defence Resource Management Information Systems (DRMIS) – specifically production environment.

Knowledge of the Quality ISO (9001).

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Willing and able to work overtime, on an occasional basis.
Willing and able to travel within & outside Canada.
Willing and able to go onboard submarines accessing very tight spaces such as tanks and torpedo tubes.
Willing and able to sail in submarines when required for sea trials.
