Duties

The Managing Director is responsible for leading teams carrying out the supervision of property and casualty insurance companies regulated by OSFI. The position oversees the activities carried out in assessing the safety and soundness of the financial institutions, identifying unsafe practices and taking direct and early intervention, as appropriate.

The position is responsible for providing high quality oversight through directed guidance, empowerment and delegation and by giving employees the necessary tools and professional development to carry out their responsibilities. Leading, developing, and coaching staff are key responsibilities of the position.

Other core responsibilities of the position include providing senior management leadership on PCG operational matters (business & human resources) and collaborating with the other PCG MD to ensure there is general consistency of practices across the PCG teams in the performance of core supervisory activities. In addition, the Managing Director as part of the senior leadership team in Insurance Supervision Sector (ISS) provides change management leadership & support on the intra or cross sector ISS or OSFI-Wide initiatives.

This position will represent OSFI with external stakeholders and will influence regulatory policy, where required.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
● A university degree with specialization in finance, accounting, actuarial science, economics, business administration, mathematics, or other relevant area OR an acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
● Recent and significant experience at the executive level working within the P&C insurance industry in one of the following areas: finance, risk management, internal audit, actuarial or other relevant areas AND/OR recent and significant supervisory/regulatory experience at the executive level.
● Significant experience in leading/managing and/or developing/coaching staff.

● Extensive knowledge of the domestic P&C industry including the regulatory environment, organizational structures, business models and products.

● Knowledge of Domestic and International regulatory requirements affecting P&C insurers particularly as they relate to accounting, capital and regulatory developments.

● Recent and significant experience at the executive level working within the P&C insurance industry in two of the following areas: finance, risk management, internal audit, actuarial or other relevant areas AND/OR recent and significant supervisory/regulatory experience at the executive level.
● Recent and significant experience at the executive level working within the P&C insurance industry in three of the following areas: finance, risk management, internal audit, actuarial or other relevant areas AND/OR recent and significant supervisory/regulatory experience at the executive level.
● Experience providing input into tactical or strategic objectives.
● Experience in making presentations to senior management or Board.
● Experience in managing multiple projects.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE
● Knowledge of the life insurance industry.
