The goal of the National Fitness and Health Promotion Program is to promote and foster police officer fitness for duty; and regular physical activity for optimal health and well-being of all employees.

~~ FITNESS AND HEALTH PROMOTION ADVISOR ~~
The role of the fitness and health promotion advisor is to develop, lead, and deliver the program at the divisional level.

This includes the development of strategies to: raise awareness; increase knowledge, develop positive attitudes, and skills; provide a network for mutual support; foster community development and challenges; and build a supportive environment.

It also includes raising employee awareness and use of supportive programs, policies, healthcare benefits, and specialised resources.

• Leading divisional program.
• Managing the administration of physical abilities tests.
• Promoting fitness for duty, regular physical activity and wellbeing.
• Developing learning / educational activities.
• Mobilizing employees via the development of a network of fitness volunteers and coordinators.
• Evaluating the program’s implementation, results, effectiveness and impact.
• Facilitate the fitness equipment purchase, maintenance and inventory at the divisional level.

Intent of the process

Please note this process will only be used to staff positions in the National Capital Region. Applicants are encouraged to apply only if they are willing and able to work in or relocate to Ottawa.

A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions or for future term, acting, assignment, secondment, deployment, or indeterminate opportunities.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Physical Studies, Kinesiology, or related Health Field

Degree equivalency

Experience:
E1. Recent* and significant** experience in leading and managing a corporate fitness and well-being program (including the coordination of special events for all employees).

E2. Recent* and significant** experience in managing and administrating fitness and physical abilities tests (including individual counselling and development of personalized exercise programs).

E3. Recent* and significant** experience in developing and using several health promotion strategies to promote fitness, physical activity and well-being at the corporate level.

E4. Recent* and significant** experience in developing and maintaining a network of resources (volunteers, coordinators and/or employees) in support of a corporate fitness and well-being program.

E5. Recent* and significant** experience in evaluating and reporting on a corporate program’s implementation, results, effectiveness and impact.

*Recent is having the experience acquired within last five (5) years.

**Significant is defined as a depth and breadth of experience normally acquired with having performed a broad range of related activities for a period two (2) years (accumulative).

• Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in kinesiology, exercise physiology, health promotion or a related field with a strong component in physical fitness and health promotion.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
» Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology - Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP).
» National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
» NSCA -Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators (TSAC-F)

Degree equivalency

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT
• Possession of a valid driver's license or mobility normally associated with possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime as required.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations).
• At times, this is a physically demanding position requiring frequent and repeated lifting of fitness equipment. Individuals must be able to move and arrange fitness equipment when conducting Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) and other fitness programs. There is constant bending, reaching, pulling and lifting of fitness equipment.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

• First aid certification, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)*.
* At the time of appointment, candidates must have a valid first aid certification (including CPR).
