As Manager of Media Relations, you’ll be overseeing media functions at Transport Canada which include: media monitoring and analysis, media relations and issues management, and spokesperson training and support. You’ll also be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.

The minimum standard is:
• A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Notes:

2. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Recent* experience providing and/or overseeing operational support for media relations and media monitoring
• Recent* experience managing sensitive communications files, media issues or complex government-wide initiatives
• Recent* and significant** experience in media relations including responding to media enquiries; and/or acting as spokesperson for an organization
• Recent* and significant** experience providing strategic communications advice and recommendations to senior management (director level or higher)
• Experience in managing financial and human resources***
• Experience in establishing effective working relationships with key stakeholders, media outlets, colleagues and/or clients
• Experience in managing social media channels for an entire organization or in a Government of Canada context

*Recent experience is defined as experience acquired in the last three (3) years.
**Significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities over a consecutive two (2) year period in a related field. Candidates have to provide clear and specific examples in their application.
***Regarding experience in managing human resources: applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have supervised staff, assigned work and managed and assessed performance. Applicants must also indicate the number of employees they supervised directly.
