Duties

Assists various trades persons on work orders and projects.

Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools, including specialized equipment and motorized vehicles.

Provides physical labour at work sites.

Assists with site inspections and material estimates.

Experience working in a construction related environment.

Experience using power tools.

Experience working with basic computer applications such as Internet explorer, email or word processing software.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Working towards or completion of a TSASK Fireman’s or 5th Class Power Engineering License.

Degree equivalency

Experience providing general labour or building maintenance services within an institutional setting.

Experience working with or apprenticing in any of the journeyman trades.

In support of achieving a diversified workforce, consideration may be given to candidates self-identifying to the following employment equity group: Aboriginal peoples.

Willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with safety rules.

Willing and able to lift and carry objects (maximum of 25 kilograms/55 pounds).

Willing and able to work overtime, evenings and/or weekends.

Willing and able to be available to be on standby, to work shift work, and to work overtime on short notice.

Willing and able to work in varying weather conditions, including work performed outside.

Willing and able to travel via commercial or government transportation services when required.

Willing and able to work in uncomfortable positions and spaces, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, and to work in high places, such as ladders, scaffolds and/or lift trucks.

Willing and able to successfully complete the following required training; Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) training, Fall Arrest training, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training, Confined Space Entry training, First Aid training, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and/or Automated external defibrillator (AED) training.

Possession of a valid Canadian Drivers' License equivalent to a Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License

The successful candidate will be required to provide original documentation of proof of Canadian Citizenship prior to appointment. The following documents will be accepted as proof: Provincial or territorial birth certificate; Naturalization certificates (issued prior to Jan. 1, 1947); Registration of Birth Abroad certificates (issued between Jan. 1, 1947 and Feb. 14, 1977); Certificates of Retention; Citizenship certificates.

When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential education and experience qualifications. It is your responsibility to provide clear and concrete examples in your responses to each question, including when (from-to), where (occupational title, organization) and how you obtained your education and experience. It is recommended that you describe the experience examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the Assessment Board can clearly understand. Describe the situation/task, the action you took, what you accomplished and/or what you learned. The content of your response must be supported by your resume as your responses to these questions will be used as a primary source of information and your resume will only be used to validate this information. Should you indicate in your response "please refer to resume" your application will be rejected. Lack of examples and details will result in your application being rejected as the Assessment Board will have insufficient information to determine if the requirement is met.

You may be assessed using one or more of the following tools: standardized tests, written exams, interview, simulation exercise, reference check, and other assessment tools.

Testing/interviews will be conducted at the location of the employer's choice.

The successful applicant will have to obtain an RCMP security clearance. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.

Must be willing and able to relocate and/or work in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
