Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), is recruiting a Resource Team Nurse Leader to join our dynamic Regional Nursing Team located at the Regional Office, Canada Place, Edmonton. The Resource Team consists of Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners who are employed part-time in remote and isolated nursing stations providing Primary Health Care services within four northern Alberta First Nation communities.
COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION
The Regional Offices are located in downtown Edmonton and are within easy access of St Albert, Leduc, Morinville and Fort Saskatchewan. Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta and has a population of over 1,000,000 people. The First Nation communities that the Resource Team serve are in the High Level area which is located approximately 750kms north of Edmonton. Populations in these communities vary from 700 members to greater than 2000 members.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
This position is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of the nurses going into the communities; the Resource Team positions are based out of Edmonton and members are transported into, and out of, communities by a chartered weekly flight. Key areas of responsibility include: recruitment and staffing; maintaining a safe staffing level with appropriate staff mix; addressing staff conflict and assisting with conflict resolution with a focus on continuous improvement; providing support to the staff and being available for consultation during community emergencies and crises. The Resource Team Nurse Leader provides virtual support to the team members but will be expected to occasionally travel to the communities for quality review of practice, performance and program delivery.
The Resource Team Leader reports to the Nurse Manager for the Treaty 8 (north) area.
The maintenance of Cultural Competence and the provision of culturally safe practice is paramount.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a term, acting and/or permanent basis in Edmonton, Alberta.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Occupational Certification:
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
• Recent and significant* experience as a Registered Nurse in the area of practice of Primary Health Care [which includes Primary Care, Community/Public Health, and/or Home Care]
• Experience in leadership roles such as leading a project, managing a program, and/or leading a team,
*Recent and significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with a minimum period of 3 year worked consecutively within the last 5 years.

• Security clearance to the Reliability level.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Continuous professional registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
