Communication Systems Technician/Technologist (Electronics) technical support for internal and external voice and data circuits, including networks, in a submarine environment.
A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process may be created to staff current and future vacancies, and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent and temporary), various language requirements and profiles, and various security requirements.

Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Electronics Technology or a related specialty field, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in electronics and/or communications theory.
Recent (work or school within the last 10 years) and in-depth (total of at least five years within the last 10 years) applicable work experience that is required for the following:
-Work experience in the conduct of support to operations of internal and external voice and data circuits, including networks in a submarine environment.
-Planning and/or conducting a variety of equipment support such as equipment installs, inspections, surveys, set-to-works (STWs), tests or trials, and identifying equipment failures and conditions that require further investigation on submarines; and
-Analyzing and solving technical problems, writing technical documents; reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and technical manuals; and
-Application of quality control and/or quality assurance procedures, processes and engineering best practices.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in electronics engineering or related science field.
Recent (work or school within the last 10 years) and in-depth (total of at least five years within the last 10 years) applicable work experience that is desired for the following:
-Conducting system integration and/or conducting technical investigations to determine the causes of failures in internal and external voice and data circuits, including networks in a submarine environment.
-Processing and handling classified data, as well as applying Information Systems Security procedures for IT/Combat Systems, databases and corporate messaging; and
-Working on an SSK class submarine.

Knowledge of electronics application theory;
Knowledge of equipment and crew vulnerabilities when working in a submarine environment.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English;

Asset Qualifications:
Knowledge of operations, capabilities and limitations of specialized naval test equipment.
Ability to review and evaluate engineering proposals and technical specifications and formulate recommendations regarding practicality of proposals;
Ability to write procedures related to Local Maintenance Repair Specifications (LMRS) and/or Engineering Changes (ECs) for Canadian Naval vessels.

Work in a naval at-sea surface and submarine environment, including:
a. varying sea states;

Travel nationally and internationally and be away from home for extended periods.
Secret security clearance - Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, depending on the specific position.
Willing and able to:
Work at a desk from a computer for extended periods of time; and
Shift working hours and work overtime in accordance with the collective agreement.
