Duties

Are you a self-starter, interested in working in an environment where no two days are alike? Do you enjoy taking initiative on tasks and running with them, allowing you to employ your strategic thinking and strong investigative skills? Do you get energized when you have a variety of projects on the go? Do you embrace change? Then this opportunity might be for you!

At PSPC we have the opportunity to engage with many other government departments on a number of projects and issues. Some of the widely varied files you may be involved with include supporting infrastructure development through strategic oversight on projects such as the Canadian High Arctic Rsearch Station and the Giant Mine Remediation Project. You will also provide support to communication activities, overseeing Access to Information Requests and developing briefings for senior departmental representatives. You might also participate in the development of Question Period Notes, and the analysis and synthesis of information in support of horizontal departmental initiatives and business planning.

This role will give the successful candidate opportunities to input to Branch and Regional priorities. The PSPC culture supports continuous learning and allows you to choose from numerous developmental opportunities as well as ongoing opportunities to try a variety of new things. You will also enjoy a positive workplace culture where teammates work in collaboration to accomplish common goals. You will be part of a high functioning team where change is embraced, and your new ideas and fresh perspectives will be valued.

In this role you can also build your resume by increasing your knowledge of the various programs offered at PSPC and other Government of Canada departments. You will have opportunities to engage and support senior leadership as well as partners and stakeholders from across government. PSPC Western Region geographic boundaries consist of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and Nunavut (that is 52% of Canada’s landmass!). We have nearly 600 people located in Yellowknife, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Iqaluit and a number of other smaller locations.

The PSPC offices in Western Region are leading edge in workplace design. In order to increase collaboration across the large expanse of our region, we have equipped all of our staff with lightweight notebook computers with touch screens and android portable devices for cell and emails. In addition, our “tech enabled” offices have over 25 video conference rooms and terminals and use peer to peer video conference software (CISCO Movi). We have equipped most meeting and quiet rooms with screens and Bluetooth speakers for conference calls and use Clickshare for wireless presentations. These are some examples of how well we have adopted technology in our workplace. With the tools you need to work in our modern workplace, we also support flexible work arrangements such as telework. As well, an important core value that supports our team is a positive commitment to work-life balance.
