Successful candidates may choose to live in Amherst or in nearby cities, such as Moncton, NB, which is forty (40) minute drive, or Truro, which is a one (1) hour drive from Amherst.

Candidates who are not federal public service employees and live outside Amherst may be eligible for the Relocation Program, which provides newly appointed employees with up to $5,000.

Duties

•Provides project management oversight, expertise and advice on interrelated programs for the planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of infrastructure for First Nations and other aboriginal communities.

•Contributes to the development and implementation of program policy, frameworks or standards.

•Establish a strong consultative relationship with First Nations clients at the community, tribal council and regional/territorial level to advise on engineering proposals, identify needs and recommend priorities for consideration in departmental planning processes.

Intent of the process

The intent of this anticipatory process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar or identical positions within Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) in the Atlantic Region. The linguistic profiles or requirement as well as tenures and/or the security clearance may vary according to the position being staffed.

The positions are primarily located in our Atlantic Regional Office in Amherst, Nova Scotia, but could include positions within Indigenous Services Canada in the Atlantic Region.

Education - Streams 1 & 2
•Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering, environmental engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

*Unless it is otherwise specified (e.g., Master’s degree), the term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification - Streams 1 & 2
•Hold a certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada.

Experience - Streams 1 & 2
•Recent* experience in selecting and overseeing engineering consultants and contractors.
•Recent* experience in providing technical and strategic advice to clients and management.
•Recent* experience in contract administration.

Experience - Stream 1 (Senior Engineer Water And Waste Water)
•Recent* and significant** experience in the technical evaluation of water and waste water engineering reports.
•Recent* and significant** experience in managing water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Experience - Stream 2 (Senior Engineer, Buildings)
•Recent* and significant** experience in the technical evaluation of building condition assessment engineering reports.
•Recent* and significant** experience in managing municipal building modification
and construction projects.

*Recent experience is defined as experience within the last five (5) years.
**Significant experience refers to the breadth and depth of the experience acquired (demonstrated by the performance of diverse and associated duties) for a minimum of eight (8) or more years.
