Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
E1. Experience in method development in a laboratory environment related to the analysis of trace amounts of inorganic species/organometallic species in complex matrices (e.g., biological matrices, food, etc.).
E2. Experience in the operation, maintenance, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation of computerized inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer coupled to one or more of: 1) gas chromatography, 2) liquid chromatography, 3) ion chromatography.
E3. Experience in leading research studies related to trace analysis of inorganic species and organometallic species in complex matrices.
E4. Experience in presentation and publication of analytical results.

Knowledge:
K1. Knowledge of the chemistry of inorganic and organometallic species, including their characterization.
K2. Knowledge of analytical techniques used in the analysis of trace amounts of inorganic/organometallic compounds in complex matrices.
K3. Knowledge of the theory and practical application of inductively coupled plasma/ mass spectrometry related to the analysis of chemical contaminants in complex matrices.
K4. Knowledge of quality control procedures used to ensure reliable data in trace analysis, including within lab method validation techniques, and quality management systems.

Abilities:
A1. Ability to plan, manage and execute research programs, with broad guidelines established by the supervisor.
A2. Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometers.
A3. Ability to summarize data accurately, prepare documents and presentations for reporting results of scientific investigations.
A4. Ability to effectively participate in inter-disciplinary teams.
A5. Ability to communicate orally.
A6. Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
