The TSB was created as an independent agency due to the importance of impartiality in the conduct of investigations. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB enjoys a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
Persons at the same group and level or equivalent may be considered for deployment. There will be a selection process and a pool of partially qualified candidates will be established. This pool could be used to staff similar positions (in the NCR or in the regions) with various tenures or language requirements and profiles.

Education:
PROFILE 1:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
AND
Candidates must have a certificate issued by Transport Canada with endorsement in one of the following disciplines:
- Master near Coastal;
- Master, Intermediate Voyage;
- Fishing Master, Second class
- Second-class Engineer Certificate of Competency (motor ship, steamship or combined).
OR
PROFILE 2:
University Degree or Diploma in Naval Architecture combined with significant experience in marine inspections and/or marine accident investigations.
Experience:
- Experience as Master or Chief Engineer on ships
OR
- Recent* and significant** experience in the technical or operational management or inspection of ships.
OR
- Recent* and significant** experience the design or construction of ships.
* “Recent experience” is understood to mean in the last seven (7) years.
** “Significant experience” is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired through the execution of a large number of complex and relevant activities over a minimum period of two (2) years.

- Knowledge of Canadian and International marine legislation and/or related regulations and/or codes and/or standards.

Education :
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
Occupational Certification:
- Master Mariner certificate issued by Transport Canada.

Experience:
- Experience in carrying out investigations into marine accidents.
- Experience navigating in Canadian waters including a combination of trips and assignments at sea resulting in good local knowledge in one of the three TSB regions.

In accepting this offer, you agree to comply with these conditions and to continue to comply with them as long as you occupy the position:
1. Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III).
2.Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
3.Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
4. Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.
5. Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
6. Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.
7.Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
