More specifically, we work with Canadians in all areas of the economy and in all parts of the country to improve conditions for investment. We enhance as well Canada’s innovation performance, increase Canada’s share of global trade and build a fair, efficient and competitive marketplace.

We also manage Canada’s airwaves and oversee Canada’s bankruptcy, incorporation, intellectual property and measurement systems; we provide financing and industry research tools to help businesses’ develop, import and export; we support scientific research; and we protect and promote the interests of Canadian consumers.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, deployment, specified period, assignment, secondment), various security requirements and various language profiles. By default and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of collective staffing processes at ISED will be shared with other government departments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in Economics, Sociology or Statistics

* Acceptable specialization is at least one full year course or two half-year courses in Economics, Sociology or Statistics

Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

You have acquired at least two (2) years’ experience where you wrote recommendations, advice or reports in a work environment

You have acquired at least two (2) years’ experience where you conducted complex* research and analysis and provided options / recommendations for use by management.

* Complex is defined as referring to at least one (1) of the following characteristics: involving multiple partners or stakeholders, impacting an organization, having a potential for a significant socio-economic outcome, legal outcome or other similar characteristics.

You have acquired experience where you worked collaboratively with stakeholders and partners.

Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in economics, sociology, statistics, business/commerce, political science, public policy, mathematics or a related field.

Degree equivalency

Experience in change management projects.

Experience in corporate planning such as reports on plans and priorities, corporate reporting, accountability frameworks, performance management, corporate risk profiles and business continuity planning.

Experience with data analysis and interpretation.

Experience in social or economic policy development or analysis.

Experience in program design, program development, program analysis or program evaluation.

Experience writing technical documents for publication.

Experience in conducting legal research.

Experience using business intelligence tools such as Cognos, SPSS and SAS.
