Work environment

Work is performed in a police environment where there are inherent stresses and distractions and exposure to unsettling reports when transcribing recorded incidents or complaints.

There are constant interruptions in order to respond to requests for service or information. Occasionally there are disagreeable interactions with external clients such as witnesses, victims, accused and suspects, and complainants, who are at times confused, fearful, hostile, or in shock about a situation or circumstance (missing child, assault, emergency situations).

There is a requirement to be in the detachment office alone, when police officers are on patrol or off duty.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff 1 permanent full-time position. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, on a casual basis, at full or part time hours) in Fort Nelson, BC

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); for various positions with various tenures, various security profiles and various language requirements.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
