Work is performed in a police environment where there are inherent stresses and distractions and exposure to unsettling reports when transcribing recorded incidents or complaints.
There are constant interruptions in order to respond to requests for service or information. Occasionally there are disagreeable interactions with external clients such as witnesses, victims, accused and suspects, and complainants, who are at times confused, fearful, hostile, or in shock about a situation or circumstance (missing child, assault, emergency situations).
There is a requirement to be in the detachment office alone, when police officers are on patrol or off duty.
The immediate need is to staff 1 permanent full-time position. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, on a casual basis, at full or part time hours) in Dease Lake Detachment, BC.
The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); for various positions with various tenures, various security profiles and various language requirements.

• Successful completion of two years of secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience:
1. Recent experience in performing clerical duties (such as assisting or advising the general public, filing, processing mail, reception, etc.).
2. Experience with hard copy and electronic file management.
3. Recent experience using word processing and spreadsheet software programs (such as Microsoft Word and Excel) in a work setting.
4. Recent experience with purchasing and processing invoices.
5. Recent experience in managing financial accounts (such as tracking expenditures and reconciling statements)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of a course of study in office administration (for example, administrative assistant or secretarial certificate)

4. Recent experience in transcribing audio recordings with digital equipment in English
5. Experience with police computer applications and programs such as PRIME, CPIC, JUSTIN, and PIRS.

Candidates will be required to provide supervisory references. Candidates who are unable to provide the requested references may be found not qualified should the selection board determine that they are unable to complete its assessment of the candidate.

Successful candidates will have to obtain, as a minimum, an Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain a security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
Candidates from outside the federal public service will be required to pay for their own travel and relocation expenses.
You must provide proof of your Canadian Citizenship. The original of one of the following documents must be provided for verification:
• Provincial or territorial birth certificate
• Naturalization certificates (issued prior to Jan. 1, 1947)
• Registration of Birth Abroad certificates (issued between Jan. 1, 1947 and Feb. 14, 1977)
• Certificates of Retention
• Citizenship certificates
• Citizenship card
• Valid Canadian Passport
The successful applicant may be eligible for the Isolated Post Allowance and related benefits.
