In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in field and laboratory biology-related research.
Experience in identifying, sampling and/or monitoring of arthropod populations and/or maintaining insect colonies, cultures and/or host material.
Experience with crop production.
Experience with analytical chemistry methods.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the position (e.g. biology, environmental science, agriculture, chemistry)

MSc Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biology, agriculture or chemistry (with a biological focus).

Possess a Pesticide Applicators License.

Degree equivalency

Experience applying and working with pesticides in a correct and safe manner following Provincial, GLP or OECD guidelines.

Knowledge of basic entomology and ecology.
Knowledge of horticultural crop production.
Knowledge of field and laboratory research techniques.
Knowledge of chemical ecology principles.

Operational Requirements
Ability and willingness to obtain a Nova Scotia Pesticide Applicators License.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid driver’s license (Nova Scotia Class 5) or personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid driver’s license.
Ability and willingness to work overtime.
Ability and willingness to travel.
With appropriate safety precautions in place, able and willing to work in laboratory, greenhouse, field environments for extended periods at a time.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions and under normal safety precautions.
Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
