Duties

Western Economic Diversification’s (WD) Manitoba Region is looking for dedicated and motivated people to build on and support a variety of policy areas, such as inclusiveness, cluster development, northern economic development and innovation. Your work will drive thought leadership on the trends shaping the future of inclusive economic development in Western Canada.

WD is at the forefront of new and innovative approaches to inclusive economic development and delivery including supporting the new Women’s Entrepreneurship Strategy and the upcoming Western Canadian Growth Strategy. As the Regional Development Agency for the West, we are nimble, flexible and able to deliver swiftly on those priorities in Manitoba and across Western Canada.

Intent of the process

This process is to fill one Indeterminate EC-06 position and one Indeterminate EC-07 position.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established to fill future vacancies with various tenures (term and indeterminate) for each level.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, statistics, public administration, political science, business administration, or a related specialization for the position.

Degree equivalency

For EC-06 and EC-07 Positions:
Significant* experience in research and analysis to address a broad range of economic development issues and opportunities in Western Canada.

Significant* experience in applying data analysis and economic research techniques to the evaluation of policy issues.

Experience collaborating on policy-related or economic-related initiatives with partners or stakeholders.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired with the performance of full time duties for a period of three years or more.

For EC-07 Positions:
Significant* experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on complex** economic development issues, priorities, policies or strategies.

Experience managing human and financial resources.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired with the performance of full time duties for a period of three years or more.

**Complex policy issues are defined as policy issues that are ambiguous, poorly defined and require input, expertise and analysis from across multiple sectors, organizations or disciplines.

Knowledge of economic issues related to Western Canada.
Knowledge of federal and western provincial roles and activities related to economic development in Western Canada.
Knowledge of policy and/or sectoral issues related to economic development in Western Canada.

Masters degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the position.

Significant* experience analyzing and developing policy options on one or more of WD’s areas of interest (e.g., clean tech, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, protein industries and inclusive economic growth).
