Duties

The hired candidate:

Audits, analyses and processes specified aircraft, mobile, ship and High Frequency land station radio authorization applications submitted by clients, to determine applicant eligibility, compliance with the Radiocommunication Act and applicable regulations, standards, policies and directives, and issues associated radio station licences. Also, ensures the accuracy of fees submitted.

Provides support to Spectrum Management Officers (SMO's) by preprocessing all categories of radio communication systems including broadcasting and microwave applications and transfers the applications to the SMO's. Reviews and imports applications from the online Spectrum Management System. Performs technical audit and general data entry.

Provides a range of administrative, materiel management and financial services in support of Spectrum operations in a district office.

Answers general queries from clients and provides general advice, recommendations and direction about Spectrum Management & Telecommunications programs, services such as online Spectrum Management System and financial accounts.

Co-ordinates the unpaid account program by reviewing unpaid accounts, initiating contact phone calls and recommending directed investigations.

Updates and maintains various local, regional and national technical databases. Retrieves information from databases for the purpose of generating reports and provides these reports to the SMO's for spectrum management activities, to external clients for information, and to management for analysis and planning. Audits the accuracy of information in these databases and prepares reports detailing data for correction and distribution.

Administers the Professional Radio Operator Certificate program, the Amateur Radio Certificate program and the Accredited Examiner program by issuing, denying or replacing radio operator certificates, issuing and renewing-authority for delegated examiners and assigning call signs.

Recommends refunds or debt write-offs on client accounts in accordance with applicable provisions of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and associated debt write-off regulations.

Receives complaints of radio interference from clients, conducts client interviews and database and file research, and for non-complex investigations, offers possible solutions from a range of predetermined options.

Manages their own workload to ensure national, regional and district service standards and other targets/objectives are met.

The intention of this selection process is to fill one (1) permanent position in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions within Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada with the same language requirements and various tenures (permanent or temporary) in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

EDUCATION
- Secondary School Diploma.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in providing administrative or clerical support services in an office environment.
- Experience in the use of various software including MS Word or Word Perfect, MS Outlook, MS Excel.
- Experience providing service to clients or the general public.
- Experience in managing correspondence and/or emails and preparation of responses.

- Occasional requirement to work overtime.
- Occasional requirement to travel for meetings, training, and other work-related activities.
