Duties

The project will assess the effects of amending soils with struvite, a recovered magnesium ammonium phosphate precipitate from wastewater that can be used as a source of nutrients for crop production. This will require the collection and processing of plant and soil samples in the field and lab to determine the effect of struvite application to soil on crop yield, phosphorus uptake, and soil phosphorus chemistry. The project will also require work in field and lab to assess the effect of struvite application to soils on arbuscular mycorrhizal root colonization and soil P chemistry. There is also the opportunity for the student to be involved in assessments of the effect of struvite application on water quality.
