Duties

OSFI’s Insurance Supervision Sector (ISS) has openings in its Life Insurance Group for three highly motivated individuals to join the team as a Manager in the Toronto office. These individuals will be involved in the analysis and assessment of the risk profile and risk management practices of federally regulated insurance companies, and will lead or participate in a variety of other projects.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff three Manager positions within the Life Insurance Group. This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates, which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles and requirements, security profiles and various tenures. Qualified candidates may be considered for other manager level positions in the Insurance Supervision Sector.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
● A university degree specializing in accounting, actuarial science, business, commerce, economics, mathematics or another relevant field; or a combination of relevant education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
● Recent and significant experience working in the life insurance industry that includes involvement in various areas such as product development, analysis of profitability and financial results, strategic planning or risk management.
● Recent and significant experience in identifying key risk areas and assessing risk management and oversight practices in the life insurance industry.
● Recent and significant experience in analyzing financial reporting specific to the life insurance and/or reinsurance industry, including capital.
● Experience communicating and presenting complex issues to senior executives within the financial services sector and/or OSFI.

● Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: risk management, internal control practices, financial services performance indicators, and actuarial standards and practices along with the information and techniques used in the measurement and management or risks in these areas.

o life insurance products and practices
o the operations and structure of the industry and insurance company
o understanding the key risks and issues facing the life insurance industry sufficiently to be able to make recommendations to address gaps in risk management.
