• Support the development and implementation of operational policies and guidance documents to ensure timely and consistent departmental participation in environmental assessment processes.

The Environmental Assessment Program is responsible for leading the department’s engagement in environmental assessment (EA) processes in order to identify and mitigate the potential environmental impacts of project development under the mandate of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
The positions under consideration would involve supporting the environmental assessment team, nationally and regionally, on a number of challenging, fast-moving files. This position would require working closely with regional environmental assessment (EA) officers and expert support staff, briefing up to DG and ADM levels, and ensuring the national consistency of ECCC advice provided as part of EA processes. It will also include developing national operational policy, guidance and training in the EA process and the communication of ECCC’s scientific advice. This is a challenging and fast-paced position, with an emphasis on efficiency, quality assurance and the maintenance of good working relations with the regional coordinators, other directorates and federal departments.
ANTICIPATORY PROCESS :The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff PC-02 positions within the Environmental Protection Branch across Canada * with various linguistic profiles and/or requirements (such as English essential, bilingual BBB/BBB and/or CBC/CBC), various security requirements (Reliability, Secret) as well as tenures (Term, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Indeterminate, Deployment), in order to meet our future operational needs.
* The majority of the positions will be located in the National Capital Region (NCR), more specifically in Gatineau, Quebec.

Education:
ED-01 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Note:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience:
EX-01 - Experience* providing scientific or technical advice related to environmental issues.
EX-02 - Experience* supporting the development and implementation of operational policies, training and guidance.
EX-03 - Experience* preparing briefing notes, memoranda and presentations.
*Experience for these qualifications is defined as work related experience obtained by the candidate that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of approximately 1 year within the last 3 years.
