Work environment

The Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott is the largest Public Service Military Industrial complex in Canada. This facility’s primary purpose is to provide support and expertise in ship repair services and to maintain our naval vessels and submarines.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff term positions. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions within various units and locations.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a minimum of one of the following certifications/qualifications:

Provincial or inter-provincial certification as a Plater/Iron-worker/Metal Fabricator SR BOB 09.
Or
Journeyperson status with certificate as a Plater/Iron-worker/Metal Fabricator.
Or
Acceptable proof of experience working in the Metal Fabrication Trade as a Plater/Iron-worker/Metal Fabricator for a minimum of five years (60 months) cumulative.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Recent* experience working as a Plater, Iron-worker, or Metal Fabricator

*Recent is defined as one year within the last five

EXPERIENCE:
Experience using heavy plate rolls and shears

Experience using heavy plate flanger/brake

Experience working in accordance with ISO standards

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of ships terminology

Knowledge of shop practices and shop tools

Knowledge of shop mathematics and layout

ABILITIES:
Ability to perform Boiler/Plate trade related tasks

Ability to problem solve

Ability to read and interpret blue prints, drawings, specifications and material lists for compatibility

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to obtain a valid passport and travel

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Possession of or willingness to obtain a valid Certified Welding Bureau (CWB) Tacking Ticket

May be required to perform shift work or overtime

Required to work for prolonged periods in adverse weather and/or climate conditions

Required to work in dirty and/or noisy environments

Required to work on naval ships and submarines

Required to work in confined spaces (I.E. submarines and internal tanks)

Ability to climb and work at heights (Ships MAST or work out of a MAST Box)

Ability to wear all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

Required to lift, carry and move heavy awkward shaped materials and equipment
