The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting research, analysis, and evaluation of information and communications technologies to determine privacy risks, to assess compliance with privacy legislation and policies, and to identify important privacy issues.
• Using the dedicated computer and network laboratory to research, develop, and deploy procedures and methods to analyze privacy-related issues for products and services.
• Preparing reports and briefings, and providing sound recommendations, on the privacy implications of information and communications technologies to OPC staff and management, up to and including the Commissioner.
• Conducting technical assessments of Privacy Impact Assessments, breaches, IT and related architectures, systems, applications, and security and privacy processes to identify compliance risks and IT technical solutions.
• Providing expertise to enable OPC to anticipate and address emerging risks and analyzing ‘hot’ issues to prepare advice, recommendations, and policy positions within short timeframes.
• Representing the office at external meetings, on external working groups, at conferences and in other local, national and international fora with respect to the privacy implications of information and communications technologies.
• Contributing to outreach activities including drafting materials for use in education, training, publications and conference materials, and conducting training sessions, speeches, presentations, and panels.

Located in a LEED building in Downtown Gatineau, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC, approximately 180 employees) is where people who are passionate about the privacy rights of others work to make a difference.
The Technology Analysis Directorate within the OPC is a highly skilled team of analysts with backgrounds in IT security, privacy, data analytics, and research. Our team assists in most activities in the office (e.g., investigations, audits, research, education, policy development, legal analyses) when there’s a technology component involved, which can be quite often given the digital world in which we live. Much of our work is supported by hands-on research and assessments in our dedicated technology lab where we get involved with many exciting technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence and privacy engineering.

Experience

Asset - Experience
Experience with emerging technologies and concepts (e.g., privacy engineering, privacy enhancing technologies (PETs), privacy by design, artificial Intelligence, blockchain, IoT).
Experience in reverse engineering.
Experience in conducting digital forensic acquisitions and the proper handling of digital evidence.
