Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one SE RES position located at Natural Resources Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized university in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the acceptable master's degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.

Productivity/Recognition:
Author or co-author of articles published in recognized scientific journals in the fields of coastal and nearshore marine geology, coastal morphodynamics, or related fields, as well as scientific communications, reports and oral presentations.

Degree equivalency

Experience developing original contributions to the study of coastal geomorphology, coastal evolution or coastal monitoring.

Experience in developing physical, or empirical, or simulation models of coastal processes.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in developing predictive quantitative models of coastal change related to relative sea level rise and climate change scenarios.

Experience integrating transdisciplinary information (e.g. oceanographic, meteorological, ecological etc.) with field geoscience data such as surficial sediment samples, instrument-derived observations or geophysical data, for characterisation of coastal systems.

Experience in the acquisition and processing of coastal and nearshore survey data such as RTK profiles, aerial surveys, LiDAR / bathy LIDAR, and echosounders.

Willingness and ability to do geoscience field work, including going to remote locations for extended periods of time, travel to field locations on helicopter or small fixed-wing airplanes, and work at sea on small vessels.

Knowledge of common coastal systems of Canada;
Knowledge of coastal and shallow seafloor mapping approaches and the processing and interpretation of associated data.

Ability to conceptualise and integrate geoscience data to arrive at original interpretations;
Ability to develop scientific proposals and projects and lead scientific research;
Ability to communicate effectively orally;
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
