The position requires scientific innovation and leadership in the area of plant physiology and agronomy. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists at BRDC working on developing eco-physiological traits for the development stress-tolerant, high yielding and high quality cultivars; developing beneficial management practices for agricultural systems with the objectives of achieving high outcomes, good economic return and minimum environmental impacts. The history of the region shows its vulnerability to climate variability so the incumbent will be working on issues that are pertinent to, and fully supported by, producer groups.
The incumbent will have access to state-of the-art laboratories and research field sites and will have the opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders in academia and industry. Research Scientists have access to competitive core and external funding opportunities, and are supported by technical and administrative staff. Research Scientists are encouraged to seek university affiliation and co-supervise graduate students.
The researcher is expected to manage multiple projects in a multidisciplinary setting requiring collaboration with other scientific teams. They will be expected to seek internal and external funding and collaborators to support the research program and to effectively manage resources to achieve the desired outcomes. The scientist will directly supervise staff, and may mentor and train post doctoral fellows and graduate students.

Located in the southwest region of Manitoba, the Brandon Research and Development Centre (BRDC) conducts major agricultural research on the Aspen Parkland region of Canada's prairies with the mandate to address severe drought, heat, erosion, frost, pests, and crop disease related problems. Today, Prairie common wheat and durum varieties are grown on about 50% and 90% of the wheat acreage in Canada, respectively. Research is conducted into understanding integrated cropping systems including organic systems for pulses, alternative crops and forages, and developing best practices to enhance environmental performance and sustainability.
1 Full Time Permanent position. However, an inventory of qualified candidates could be established and could be used to fill a similar positions in the center referenced in this poster or another AAFC research center.

An acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of plant science or other relevant discipline related to the duties of the position

Experience conducting research in abiotic and biotic stress physiology on agricultural crops.
Experience designing and conducting field crop research experiments (e.g., small plot, field scale, greenhouse, growth chamber).
Experience analyzing and interpreting experimental data.
Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team.
Documented scientific productivity/recognition in the area of agronomy, crop physiology or other relevant discipline. Examples include, but are not limited to, publications in recognized journals, book chapters, editorships, patents, crop varietal development, awards for scientific achievement, and recognition in the review of articles and scientific proposals.
Experience in abiotic stress phenotyping or other relevant discipline related to this position.
Experience in process-based or statistical modeling on plant-environment interactions.
Experience in research associated with the impact of climate change on agricultural practices.
Experience in writing grant applications.
Experience interacting with agricultural stakeholders.
Experience in managing multi-year projects with associated human resource, budgetary, and planning functions.
