Intent of the process

Initially, the intent of this process is to staff three (3) positions in Treasury Board Secretariat, Legal Services, with various language requirements (English Essential and Bilingual Imperative of various levels).

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this process which may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenures (indeterminate, acting/acting extension, specified period, assignment/secondment, deployment, etc.), various language requirements (English essential, French essential, English or French Essential, bilingual imperative of various levels) and various conditions of employment, which may vary according to the position to be staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

• ED - Law degree from a recognized university.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

• OC - Eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.

EXPERIENCE:

• EX1 - Significant* and recent** experience in conducting litigation before courts or tribunals.

• EX2 - Recent** experience in preparing legal opinions and providing legal advice.

• EX3 - Experience representing clients in settlement negotiations, mediations and alternative dispute resolution processes.

*Significant means the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of approximately five years.
**Recent means experience acquired within approximately the last four years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

• AEX1 - Experience in labour and employment litigation.

• AEX2 - Experience appearing before federal tribunals and the Federal Courts.

• AK1 - Knowledge of the rules of practice and procedure of the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
