About the Position:
The Canadian Coast Guard is dedicated to improving its business intelligence (BI) capacity to meet the evolving demands for timely and accurate information to make decisions. We are looking for a motivated person to work with our team of BI analysts to help execute a new exciting mandate of providing the tools and technology for reliable future-proof business intelligence.
Led by a dedicated executive, this small team of five BI analysts and continuous improvement experts is expected to drive business innovation and promote continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
• Gather complex business requirements from various stakeholders by defining business problems and data requirements.
• Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to implement innovative solutions including required reports and dashboards.
• Design, develop, test and support operational reporting and dashboard solutions.
• Deliver continuous improvement and lean services for all data management, business intelligence and business analytics processes.
• Facilitate the resolution of complex data management issues, such as conflicting data ownership, data provision, data quality, data accessibility.
As a Special Operating Agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard owns and operates the federal government’s civilian fleet, and provides key maritime services to Canadians. From icebreaking, to search and rescue to environmental response, Coast Guard plays an important role in ensuring safe and accessible waterways for Canadians. The immediate intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on a temporary basis until March 31, 2020.
A list of fully qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff positions with various tenures, various language requirements and various security requirements within Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Education:
• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
1. A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
2. An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience:
• *Significant experience as a BI developer, BI analyst or in data visualization role..
• *Significant experience with enterprise business intelligence and information processing such as data integration, reporting and analysis.
• Experience using business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau)
*Significant is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex related activities for a period of approximately four (4) years
Asset Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
• Certificate in business intelligence or data analytics
• Certification in business analysis or project Management
Experience:
• Experience working with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formula language.
