Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department, and we provide the science and technology information needed so that Canadians can make informed decisions about the environment. In addition, Environment and Climate Change Canada's science and technology work helps us to protect and conserve our air, water, wildlife and spaces.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada in the listed locations with various tenures, language requirements or profiles, and conditions of employment.

ALL STREAMS
EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences directly related to the duties.
EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience in organizing and conducting field research studies on wildlife in remote conditions
• Significant* experience in managing and analyzing wildlife research data
• Experience in preparing scientific reports or publications
* Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over two (2) years.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of the principles of wildlife conservation and management
• Knowledge of Environment and Climate Change Canada’s conservation priorities for migratory birds and species at risk
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
• Ability to set and manage priorities and workload to attain results
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships

ALL STREAMS

• Experience capturing, handling, banding and taking biological samples from birds
• Experience in collecting, transporting, processing, storing and maintaining an inventory of biological samples
• Experience with wildlife telemetry
• Experience in supervising field research personnel
• Knowledge of basic statistics and elements of database design
• Knowledge of the biology and conservation of migratory birds
STREAM 1: MARINE ECOSYSTEMS
• Experience in research or monitoring of marine birds
• Experience in the safe operation of firearms
• Experience in working with members of Indigenous communities
• Experience operating small vessels
STREAM 2: TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS:
• Experience in research or monitoring of landbirds
• Experience in research or monitoring of waterbirds
• Experience in research or monitoring of amphibians and/or reptiles
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
ALL STREAMS
• Willingness to capture and handle wildlife
• Willingness to undertake program travel by various modes of transportation (car, airplane, helicopter, boat, all-terrain vehicle)
• Willingness to work in adverse environmental conditions and remote areas for up to two months at a time
• Willingness to work irregular hours and on weekends
N.B.: Interested persons must meet each essential qualification to be appointed to the position. However, a person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria may be desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
