Duties

As the Canadian Space Agency’s (CSA) authority in physical sciences, namely space astronomy and planetary exploration, manages the Planetary Mission and Astronomy section and is accountable for the initiation, definition, development and implementation of space exploration missions. This includes the development of mission science and mission requirements, Concepts of Operation and feasibility studies, and the development and implementation of the data utilization policy.

Liaises with national and international stakeholders, such as other government departments (OGDs), Space Agencies, industry, and academia involved in space exploration or interested in the outcome of space exploration missions, and negotiates and coordinates potential Canadian participations in future exploration missions with these organisations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Doctorate, from a recognized university, in a specialty relevant to the duties of the position such as, but not limited to: Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Optics, Photonics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Candidates with foreign educational credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. You may consult The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials at http://www.cicic.ca for further information.

Degree equivalency

At least ten (10) years of experience within the last fifteen (15) years working as a scientist or an engineer on space science missions.

At least five (5) years of experience within the last ten (10) years making strategic recommendations to management in space projects or programs.

At least five (5) years of experience within the last ten (10) years managing human resources and/or managing project teams.

At least three (3) years of experience within the last ten (10) years negotiating agreements and resolving scientific, technical or programmatic issues with stakeholders.

At least three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years in managing financial resources (cost center or project-related).

At least five (5) years of operational or scientific experience in the last ten (10) years in space astronomy or planetary exploration missions or programs.

At least three (3) years of experience in the last ten (10) years in managing technical or scientific projects or programs.

At least three (3) years of experience within the last ten (10) years with the procurement cycle of the federal government, including the establishment of requirements, the request for proposal and the proposal evaluation process.

At least two (2) years of experience within the last five (5) years of negotiation or consultation at the national and international level.

Experience conducting concept and feasibility studies and/or scientific or technical investigations in space missions.

At least three (3) years of experience within the last ten (10) years in working on a regular basis with national and international science committees or other space agencies.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willing and able to travel in Canada or abroad a few times a year.

(When applicable) Willing and able to work in other facilities in Canada or abroad (access authorization may be required).

Willing and able to work overtime upon request.
