Duties

The IT Support Analyst will work within one of the operational teams of the Information Management and Technology Directorate: either in Service Desk, Business Applications or Distributed Computing. The function is challenging and versatile, playing a key role with business transformation and enabling a modern workplace. The individual(s) selected will be encouraged to demonstrate creativity and technical savvy in the delivery of numerous projects and initiatives.

Work environment

The IM/IT division provides the Department of Finance with modern, mobile and collaborative tools and services to allow the Department to focus its strategies on developing policies and providing advice to the Government with the goal of creating a healthy economy for Canadians. The IM/IT division supports and operates an effective IT environment, constantly improving and evolving tools and solutions to support business functions. The department also works in close collaboration with Shared Services Canada to realize its IT functions.

The Department is located in the brand new James Michael Flaherty Building, located at 90 Elgin Street just blocks from Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal. It is served by all major and express bus routes, with a light rail station on the way in 2018, and features secure bicycle storage as well as locker rooms and showers for employees.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process MAY be created and MAY be used to fill similar positions within the Department of Finance with linguistic profiles (English / French essential or bilingual imperative BBB/BBB) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION:

Diploma (or above) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

E1- Five (5) years of significant* experience providing technical support in Information Technology as member of the IT staff in a Corporate environment of at least 500 end-users.
E2- Three (3) years of significant* experience in designing, implementing, configuring or supporting at level 2** any one (1) or more of the following in a production environment of at least 500 end-users:
(i) Windows desktops and desktop applications in a Corporate environment
(ii) Web-based applications, including Internal and External Web applications
(iii) Client/Server applications (COTS or custom)
E3- Two (2) years of significant* experience managing user accounts and network access using Microsoft Active directory

NOTE:
*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired by a person in a position where the performance of these duties constitutes his or her main functions over that period of time
**Level 2 is the second level of support defined as an escalation point of the first receipt of client’s request and where pre-established resolution procedures do not work.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

-Be willing and able to work flexible hours
-Be willing and able to work overtime as needed, sometimes without notice
