Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements (reliability or secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a Masters degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in forest economics or economics with a specialization in resource or forest economics.

Degree equivalency

Experience in planning and conducting complex and unique economic research studies related to the sustainability of the Canadian forest sector.

*Extensive, including **recent, experience in authoring scientific journal papers in peer reviewed journals, reports and discussion papers and presentation of results to professional audiences.

**Recent experience in planning and managing forest economics research project teams including human resources.

Experience in preparing and providing advice and briefings to senior officials.

* Extensive experience refers to authorship on at least 2 scientific journal papers that have been accepted in peer reviewed journals as well as at least one report.

** Recent experience refers to having performed these activities in the last 5 years.

In-depth knowledge of the Canadian forest sector and strategic challenges facing the sector.
Extensive knowledge of national forest policy, organization and activities in the sector and of public and private agencies with a forest sector mandate.
In-depth knowledge of economic theory and econometric analytical techniques.
In-depth knowledge of global supply and demand factors in the forest sector.

Ability to identify, define, direct and complete complex multi-dimensional and inter-related economic and financial analyses on challenges and opportunities in the forest sector.
Ability to provide expert advice to both public and private sector senior officials.
Ability to design and negotiate collaborative research projects.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of external partners and clients.
Ability to design, develop and utilize computer-based information systems.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
